Rules

1. Credit. If you don't know how, here's the quicked tutorial ever:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I ask that you credit first of all because I hate finding icons I like in someone's journal only to discover that the person who made them has not been credited and I cannot find more of the icons. And I would hate someone else to be in that position. Also it's polite to give credit for someone else's work.
2. No hotlinking. Photobucket is free and lets you have a whole bunch of images. I actually use photobucket, and I'd appreciate it if you use your account instead of mine. Thanks.
3. Do not alter icons. Honestly, why would you? Bases, of course, are yours to do with as you like.
4. Comment. Not a rule, per se, but a request. Please comment! I like to know what people think, and if people take these. Feedback is always nice. I try and reply to comments, but after a while I run out of variations on "Thanks!" and it starts to feel insincere. I will always answer questions.
5. Request. I like make icons, and I'm not so busy that I don't take requests. So if you'd like an icon, please ask me! It might take me a while to get around to it, but I'll do my best. Request an icon here!
6. Friending. This is an icon journal and you are more than welcome to friend it. I will not friend you back, though. It's really nothing personal.

I was thrilled when I saw someone had posted on [info]book_icons with Patricia McKillip cover art. And I see the rest of your icons are equally gorgeous! I've been admiring the recent ones of Rufus Sewell - and inspired by them, I'd like to make a request. *sheepish grin* Would it be possible for you to make some icons of Russell Crowe? Thanks for considering!

I know Russell Crowe tends to look really different for various movie roles and then sort of defaults to scruffy Australian when he's not really doing anything. Is there a particular "look" you'd like me to do? I'd hate to icon him in A Beautiful Mind when what you really wanted was like Gladiator or something.

Much as I like the default scruffy Australian, what I had in mind was something Gladiator-esque, or at least not overtly modern. To be specific -- and bear with me, 'cause I'm revealing my dorkiness here! -- I've always pictured Crowe as Roger Mortimer, the traitorous Earl of March who helped depose Edward II of England. I write historical fanfic, and stuff. *g*

I hope that helps narrow it down some!

Oh, are you an Isabella fan then? I always felt rather badly for Edward who would have done so well if he had just stayed a second son or been born to an earl or something instead of a king.

That does help, thanks! :)

I am a huge Isabella fan! And Edward II fan, in a way -- because yes, you can't help feeling sorry for the guy. I've been reading Queen Isabella: Treachery, Adultery, and Murder in Medieval England by Alison Weir. It's hardly a sympathetic look at Ed, but it does show that he was unfailingly loyal to Gaveston... and also pretty generous with Isabella, at least pre-Despensers!

It's not even sympathetic to Isabella! I was so disappointed! I'd read a fairly sympathetic biography of Edward, and I was expecting something equally sympathetic for Isabella especially coming form Alison Weir giving her excellent treatment of similar figures but...nope. I felt she thought Isabella was a shrewish, hypocritical, bitter woman. Which maybe she was but it's still possible to like her, you know? Especially given the stuff she had to go through.

OMG, the Despensers suck like big time. They are directly after Thomas Jefferson on my shit list.

From what I've read so far, I feel like Weir wants to like Isabella, but she just can't reconcile herself to Isabella's negative traits. She'll imply it's not fair for us to judge Isabella by modern standards... then point out how excessively rapacious, ruthless and reliant on Mortimer she was. It's funny, too, that she says something in the intro about not expecting to like Isabella, and not having the same rapport she'd had with Eleanor of Aquitaine. It's almost like she knows she held back with Bella and feels guilty about it!

Haha, yes! I think everyone agrees the Despensers were total asshats. And wouldn't that make a great series of icons - a historical characters shit list? :D
